Two ditches near the transportation shop routinely handle stormwater runoff during rain events. An oily sheen was observed in one of the ditches during the visual site inspection (RFA, 1988). It is unknown whether hazardous constituents have been routinely discharged to the ditch, which ultimately drains to the Atlantic Ocean. Also located in this area is a septic tank that collects the wastewater from the sink inside the Transportation Shop.

During the Expanded PA/SI, 15 surface and 20 subsurface soil samples were collected around the former septic tank at AOC C. Seven surface soil samples were collected from each of the two ditches, and one was collected in the downstream release point past the road. One groundwater sample was collected from a monitoring well located immediately downgradient of the septic tank. Due to the absence of site- related ecological or human health risk concerns, AOC B was recommended for NFA.
